| Cat Power @ the Music Box 02.06.11 |
Needless to say, I was super excited to get the opportunity to see Cat Power at the Music Box the other night. Her voice is sultry and airy at the same time, with a lot of soul and a little bit of blues mixed in. It was a super mellow set, but she looked and sounded lovely. She passed out long stem pink roses at one point and it reminded me of Al Green, who passed out long stem red roses when I saw him at The Greek Theater. I didn't pay close attention to the song choices because I was lost in thoughts about Japan...I miss my friend Dan and hope our paths cross again soon.

The Night I Saw Andy Dick

Foster the People @ the Echo 01.26.11
Finally made it to see Foster the People on Wednesday at their last night of residency at the Echo. Apparently everybody else had the same idea because the 200+ line wrapped around the block. Insanity.
Their summery Pumped Up Kicks song popped onto my radar recently, but I was unfamiliar with anything else they've done. I originally thought that there was a male and female singer, but it turns out that the lead singer has an amazing ability to change his voice into a higher range that simulates a female's voice. As for their sound, I would say that Foster the People are the lovechild of MGMT and Peter Bjorn & John They have enormous stage energy and they're going to blow up after they make their desert debut at Coachella this year. I highly suggest trying to see them Sunday April 17th if you were able to successfully obtain a ticket.

Peer Pressure

Found energy in a can of rockstar for a last minute rendezvous to see RAC. Totally caved under the repeated requests to make a play last night and I am currently paying for burning the candle at both ends. Also in attendance: Vividid, BetaTraXx, and Charles I.
Pretty decent set in an intimate venue with no real surprises. To be honest I couldn't tell if their set was live or not, but then again I was grooving super hard. I sort of lost it when their remix of The Temper Trap's Sweet Disposition dropped. Love.
